What is Company?
After auditions each Summer, dancers who stand out for their advanced skills, positive attitude, and hard work in class are selected for our competition team.
Company dancers perform at three to four regional competitions and one national competition each season, in addition to our year-end recitals. They must enroll in the necessary prerequisite classes and attend weekly rehearsals in August through June. All members perform in a "production" number, and may be selected for other pieces in jazz, contemporary, tap, musical theater, lyrical, and/or hip hop based on their audition. Dancers can also audition for competitive solos, duets, and trios in their discipline of choice.
Company is an amazing opportunity for students who want to advance to an elite level, engage in more vigorous weekly exercise, and/or dance professionally later in life. Competition dancers have the opportunity to participate in conventions, workshops, and community performances. Many members also work as student assistants at our studio.
REQUIREMENTS
Ages: 8 - 18
Prerequisites: At least 3 years dance experience
Enrolled in Cecchetti (starting with grade 1, regardless of age)
Concurrently enroll in Company classes, Cecchetti, ballet technique, pointe technique, recital ballet, and the recital version of each competition dance the student is in
Attend Company "boot camps" in August and enroll in one additional Summer class
Attend dance convention in November
Apprentice Company
Apprentice Company allows young dancers to experience competitions while competing with other beginner dancers of the same age. They perform at 3 regional competitions (local) and both June recitals. Practices are held each Wednesday in September through June. Apprentice Company members compete a jazz and/or lyrical group dance, and members who are also enrolled in youth tap may compete their recital choreography if they choose. Apprentice Company helps build confidence for dancers who are interested in joining our regular competition team. However, Apprentice Company is NOT a requirement to join Company!
REQUIREMENTS
Ages: 5 - 9
Prerequisites: At least 1 year dance experience
Concurrently enroll in Apprentice Company classes and a weekly ballet class
Dancers ages 7+ are strongly encouraged to begin Cecchetti
