Our History

Metro Dance Company is a family-owned studio based in Plymouth, MI. Since 1996, we've helped hundreds of dancers develop confidence, discipline, and a strong foundation for success both on and off the stage. Members of our tight-knit community are committed to uplifting one another. We call ourselves the Metro family, thanks to the lifelong friendships that develop here. Many of our staff are alumni who grew up dancing with us, including our current owner. As we continue our legacy of excellence, we look forward to mentoring the next generation of Metro dancers.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide exceptional and safe instruction to dancers of all levels. Rooted in decades of experience, we work diligently to help every student thrive and feel a sense of belonging at our studio.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer classes for beginners?

Yes! We welcome all levels, including beginning teens and beginning adults through advanced pre-professional students.

At what age can my child begin dance lessons?

Students can start as young as 2 1/2 in our Combo 1 class.

What experience do your instructors have?

Several of our instructors hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance, and everyone has 10+ years of experience. Our teachers continue to further their education by attending seminars, conventions, and classes.

What are typical class sizes?

We limit class sizes based on the age and skill level of students. This ensures safety and the highest quality of education. Most Combo 1, Combo 2, and Youth classes also have a student assistant to help the lead instructor. The following are our maximum class sizes by age:

Combo: 12 students

Youth: 14 students

All other classes: 16 students

Is there a dress code?

Yes, for proper education, all students must dress in the appropriate attire. Ballet in particular involves precise technical details. When everyone in a class is dressed in a uniform manner, the instructor can easily spot corrections before any "bad habits" form. More details about the dress code can be found here.

Are you closed for school vacations and holidays?

We typically follow the Plymouth-Canton school district schedule for breaks and major holidays. A list of all important dates, including studio closures, are provided in September and will be posted on the website homepage as they occur.

Do I pay the same amount per month even when there are fewer classes?

Yes, for our Fall season we charge tuition over 10 equal monthly installments (September – June). Depending on which day your class falls, classes will meet 2 to 5 times each month. Every class will meet a total of 35 times over the ten months.

Do I have to sign a contract?

No, tuition is billed on a month-to-month basis. At the time of registration, you will pay for the registration fee and the first month's tuition. Then, your card on file will automatically be charged on the first of each month (October - June). If you decide to drop a class, we require you to notify us by the 25th of the previous month to avoid being charged for the upcoming month’s tuition.

Do you offer private lessons?

Yes, we offer private lessons by appointment. Email us at info@metrodancecompany.com to schedule.

What should students bring to their first class?

Dancers should come to class in dress code-appropriate attire with their hair tied back. We suggest students bring a dance bag, extra hair ties, and a water bottle.
