Our History

Metro Dance Company is a family-owned studio based in Plymouth, MI. Since our opening in 1996, we've had the privilege of coaching hundreds of dancers towards a more confident and disciplined lifestyle that fosters success both on stage and in their personal lives. Our students and staff share strong connections and are dedicated to uplifting one another. We refer to ourselves as the "Metro family" thanks to our tight-knit community that yields lifelong friendships . Many of our staff, including our owner, are alumni who grew up dancing with us. As we continue our legacy of excellence, we look forward to mentoring the next generation of Metro dancers.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide exceptional and safe instruction to dancers of all levels. Rooted in decades of commitment, we work diligently to help every student grow, belong, and thrive while knowing they always have a home at our studio.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer classes for beginners?

Yes! We welcome all levels, including beginning teens and beginning adults through advanced pre-professional students.

How old does my child need to be to take dance classes?

Students can start as young as 2 1/2 in our Combo 1 class.

What experience do your instructors have?

Several of our instructors hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance, and everyone has 10+ years of experience. Our teachers continue to further their education by attending seminars, conventions, and classes.

What are typical class sizes?

We limit class sizes based on the age and ability of students. This ensures the highest quality of education. Most Combo 1, Combo 2, and Youth classes also have a student assistant from our competition team present. The following are our maximum class sizes by age:

Combo: 12 students

Youth: 14 students

All other classes: 16 students

Is there a dress code?

Yes, for proper education it is important that all students dress in the appropriate attire. Ballet in particular involves very detailed movements and placement. Having all students dressed to a standard helps the instructor easily spot corrections before any "bad habits" are formed. More details about the dress code can be found here.

Are you closed for school vacations and holidays?

We typically follow the Plymouth-Canton school district schedule for breaks and major holidays. A list of all important dates, including studio closures, are provided in September and will be posted on the website homepage as they occur.

Do I pay the same amount per month even when there are fewer classes?

Yes, for our Fall season we charge tuition over 10 equal monthly installments (September – June). Depending on which day your class falls, classes will meet 2 to 5 times each month. Every class will meet a total of 35 times over the ten months.

Do I have to sign a contract?

No, tuition is paid on a month-to-month basis. At the time of registration, you will pay for the registration fee and September tuition. Then, monthly payments will be automatically debited from your bank account or credit card on the first of each month (October - June). We do require notice of dropped classes by the 25th of the previous month to avoid being charged for the upcoming month’s tuition.

Do you offer private lessons?

Yes, we offer private lessons by appointment. Email us at info@metrodancecompany.com to schedule.

What should students bring to their first class?

Dancers should come to class dressed according to dress code with their hair tied back. We suggest students bring a dance bag, extra hair ties, and a water bottle.
